Whale watching

There are apparently 14 species of whales in the world and 6 of them can be found in Mexican waters exclusively. You can see humpbacks, grays, blues, killers & sperm whales swimming in the Sea of Cortez. The best times to see them are from December - mid-April each year. The humpback whale and the gray whale only visit these latitudes in the breeding season.

Land’s End Arch

At the very tip of the Baja California peninsula is an incredible rock formation knows as "Land's End Arch". It is now known as an iconic landmark and continues to be a must-see for most tourists. Water taxis and glass-bottom lanchas make the journey to this spectacular attraction. Also be sure to admire the natural sculptures that the locals have named: Pelican Rock and Neptune’s Finger among many others nearby.

And while you are visiting The Arch don’t miss:

Lovers Beach or Playa del Amor

"This small but charming beach is located north to the Arch. The uniqueness of being bathed by two seas deserves a place on your list. The gentle waves the beach receives from the Sea of Cortez are in contrast with the breaking, irruptive waves coming from the Pacific —curiously enough, this side of Lovers Beach is known as the Divorce Beach."

Underwater Sand Falls

The Sand Falls are a natural phenomenon is caused by the friction between the North American and Pacific tectonic plates and by the contrast between the temperatures of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean. If you are an experienced diver, you cannot afford to miss them on your next visit. They are more than 30 metres deep, so not for a new or learning diver sadly, but exciting all the same.
